Welcome to the North Hill Medical Group
North Hill Medical Group serves part of Colchester town centre and a large rectangular area to the north of the town. We have three surgeries: one in town, one in West Bergholt and one in Nayland. Each surgery is open five days a week and offers a full range of routine services. In this way the practice offers a convenient local service where each surgery team gets to know its patients well. At the same time, by working within a bigger group, we are able to offer a wide range of services. These include a dedicated Same Day team which ensures that patients can get help on the day when needed, and in-house referrals to doctors and nurses with particular expertise in certain areas.
Over the last ten years there has been continued major investment in each of our 3 sites, not only in the premises themselves but in equipment and continued training and development of all our practice staff. In 2005 we became an accredited training practice linked with Cambridge University, providing training for medical students and GP Registrars.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS
Please be aware that on Wednesday 7th November North Hill Medical Group will be merging their clinical system with Creffield Medical Centre. This merge will improve communication between the surgeries and therefore provide greater efficiencies in patient care. From 3pm on Wednesday 7th staff at North Hill Medical Group and Creffield Medical Centre will have no access to your clinical records. We will be providing an emergency service only. If your query is not medically urgent please contact us on the 8th November when normal service will resume.
Online services - please note that from 12 noon on the 7th November until 8am on the 8th November the online service will be unavailable due to maintenance. Please ensure that you order your medication online before the 7th November to avoid delay. Normal service will resume from 8am on the 8th November. We apologise for the inconvenience.
Further to the letters circulated to all patients registered at our North Hill Surgery we will begin to close the Surgery over the coming weeks during the afternoons. We will put notices up at the practice when the exact closure times are confirmed.
This years flu vaccination campaign is having to be run in a different way to previous years. We normally order a flu vaccine which is suitable for all patients aged 18 and over. We get 3 deliveries within 3 weeks of each other and we use this supply to vaccinate all of our patients.
This year the Department of Health have released a different vaccine for those patients aged 65 and over. This vaccine is supplied by a different provider than our normal vaccines. The Department of Health originally advised that this vaccine should be for patients aged 75 and over and at the beginning of this year added those patients aged 65-74 into the criteria. This left the supplier with an additional volume of vaccines which they needed to produce.
This additional supply has resulted in a delay in the vaccination deliveries.
We have received 1 supply of vaccines which arrived at the end of September and following guidance from the Department of Health, was used to vaccinate some of the patients aged 75 and over. However, the supply of the vaccines we received was not enough to cover all of the patients aged 75 and over within the practice.
We are due a further supply at the end of October and we are hopeful that the supply will be enough to finish vaccinating those patients aged 75 and over.
The final supply of the vaccine will not be delivered until the end of November and it is after this delivery that we will be able to finish vaccinating all of our patients.
We will be writing to everyone who is eligible for the vaccine inviting them to attend a flu vaccination clinic but until we receive the vaccine we are unable to set up the clinic dates.
We understand that this is very concerning for our patients and it is equally frustrating for us as a practice but we will ensure that we invite everyone who is eligible for the flu vaccination by the end of the year.
The children's (under 18's who have a long term condition) will be available from the end of October and again we will be writing to our patients to invite them in to a vaccination clinic.
The Colte Partnership now offers an extended hours service offering appointments up to 8pm on weekdays & also Saturday & Sunday mornings. These clinics will be held at one of 3 local practices. A range of clinics are available - from GP's to physiotherapists. Please speak to a receptionist who can give you further details on the clinics available & is able to book you an appointment if required.
NOTICE TO ALL NORTH HILL SURGERY PATIENTS
It is with sadness that we are notifying you that the current lease on the North Hill Surgery and Nunns Road building will shortly come to an end as the owners have decided to sell it.
The staff of North Hill Surgery will be relocating between our other practices (West Bergholt Surgery, Nayland Surgery and Creffield Medical Centre).
In order to help us manage where we distribute the doctors/nurses and administrative staff we would like to ask you for your opinion on where you would prefer to be seen in the future.
Please ask our reception team for a copy of our questionnaire which asks where you would like to be seen in the future and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions. Alternatively please find a copy of this questionnaire on our website which you can then email to firstname.lastname@example.org
We will be producing a “Frequently Asked Questions” document within the next month and this will be available in the surgery or online.
We are aware that this change will cause uncertainty and inconvenience for our patients and we are grateful for your views.

SURGERY TRAINING AFTERNOONS
Every few months the practice closes for an afternoon to allow us to undertake training for staff and GPs. This means that, on that day only, all our three surgeries close at 12.30pm instead of 6.30pm. On these afternoons, access to a GP is provided through the Out of Hours Service; you will be automatically directed to them from our usual surgery number.
The next training afternoon is Wednesday 18th July.
